Britney Spears Finally Shows Up to Get Grilled

After months of waffling and no-shows, Britney Spears actually showed up at the Los Angeles office of Kevin Federline’s lawyer, Mark Vincent Kaplan, this afternoon for an ongoing deposition in their custody battle. At 10:40 a.m. PST, Britney Spears, 26, wearing a dark blue top and jeans, drove up to the office in her white Mercedes-Benz SL65 with Sam Lutfi. Both Britney and Sam Lutfi had “serious expressions” on their faces. Oooh. The one-time singer has missed numerous appointments for the court-ordered cross examination by Kaplan, FedEx’s high-powered attorney.
Federline’s attorney will use evidence gathered in depositions to try to convince a court that his client (K-Fed) should retain primary physical custody of the ex-couple’s children, Jayden James and Sean Preston. That should be a real hard sell. The custody trial is set for April. “Kevin wants nothing more than to be able to parent his children with participation by their mother,” Mark Vincent Kaplan said. “But the best interest of the children require that they be in the most sound, safe, nurturing and consistent environment. That is paramount.” On January 3, Spears was deposed for only 14 minutes, after arriving late - over an hour and a half late. That night and into the next morning, Spears had a four-hour standoff with police, ending with her hospitalization. Last Monday, she lost all rights to visit Sean and Jayden indefinitely when she showed up… then left the hearing without entering the courthouse. UPDATE: Britney and Sam left around 1 p.m., and Spears “looked very upset and walked quickly to her car” before speeding off. Britney’s attorneys, Sorrell Trope and Tara Scott, tell TMZ that Brit was “in good spirits.” Riiight. Also, we have learned the deposition may take up to two days, so expect Spears back!

Spears is expected to be grilled about her drug and alcohol use, her apparent failure to follow court orders and other matters pertaining to her parenting.

Paris Hilton Speaks on Harlow Madden, Britney Spears

We though the Sundance Film Festival was reserved for talented actors and actress. But Us Weekly still spotted Paris Hilton there over the weekend. And the celebrity gossip tabloid asked the spoiled socialite about the recent birth of Harlow Madden to Nicole Richie and Joey Madden. “I’m so excited!” Hilton said “I’ve sent her all these presents. I’m going to spoil her!” Paris hasn’t made a point of actually visiting her friend, but says Nicole chose “the coolest name ever” for her newborn. “I’m like, ‘That is the coolest name, oh my God!’ I wouldn’t even think she would have thought of that. It’s a beautiful name.”
Of course, Hilton also had kinds words for Britney Spears, the singer whose been going through a personal issue or sixteen dozen recently. “She’s such a sweet girl,” Hilton said. “When I’m alone with her, she’s a completely different person than they make her out to be. And I love her, I think she’s very sweet and has a big heart.”

Usher’s Father Passes Away

We’re sad to report that Usher’s father, Usher Raymond III, passed away at an Atlanta hospital on Friday. The cause of death isn’t known at this time, but the funeral will take place later this week at the Taylor funeral home chapel in Chattanooga, TN. Even the most ardent Tameka Foster haters have to sympathize with this couple after such a tragic loss.

But the New England Patriots star’s Super Bowl XLII quarterbacking foe, Eli Manning, has performed pretty well in both departments, too. Manning, who will lead the New York Giants against the Patriots February 3, got engaged to Abby McGrew in March 2007. Eli Manning’s fiancee is studying fashion in New York, and has dated him since both attended Ole Miss. The Patriots will be heavy favorites in the big game, but perhaps this photo finish will be a little bit closer.
